Details
Throughout my formative years, hunting and
fishing had always been a way of life for me. Being from a rural
background the urge to return to this environment regularly has been very
strong. It is a place where solitude can be found, free of
materialistic distractions and constraints placed upon us by urbanisation,
an ideal base to draw inspiration from. Over the past few years I have
been fortunate to be able to persue my passion for art in various forms
with help from friends and
family.
Influences:
Many
people touch our lives in subtle ways and images of these people and the
places I was fortunate enough to visit with them are able to add an extra
dimension to my work.
Whakapapa has become an increasing inspiration
within my art topics so looks to be a long journey ahead!!
Carving:
All my carvings are
based on Maori or New Zealand themes. I carve predominantly
in Pakohe however I also occasionally like to create pieces from
greenstone, antler, horn, wood and whale
bone.
Education:
Education is for those who seek
the need for acceptance in the hypocrisy of modern
society.
